Additional Learning Support (ALS)
At Brighter Horizons Training, we believe every learner deserves the tools, time, and tailored support they need to succeed. Our Additional Learning Support (ALS) is designed to remove barriers and give every learner the confidence to thrive, no matter their starting point.

We recognise that SEND (Special Educational Needs and Disabilities) refers to the needs of the learner, while ALS (Additional Learning Support) is the support we put in place to meet those needs. Because every learner is different, we create an individualised plan for each person – no two learners’ support looks the same.
What we offer
1:1 Support
All our learners receive personalised, one-to-one teaching with their tutor, allowing us to adapt to their learning style and pace.
Extra Tutorials
We can provide additional time or extra sessions if the learner needs more support on a topic.
Bespoke Support Modules
Using tools like Cognassist, we offer tailored strategies to strengthen memory, organisation, reading, writing, or maths skills.
Regular Reviews
Every three months, we meet with the learner, their tutor, their SENCO, and their employer to review their support and make any changes needed.
Expert SENCO Oversight
Our Level 7 qualified SENCO leads the learner support journey and monitors their provision monthly to ensure they’re on track.
Our Tools and Technology

We work in partnership with Cognassist, a leading digital cognitive assessment and support platform. Cognassist helps us identify how a learner learns best and offers personalised strategies to help them succeed – not just in their course, but in their life beyond. Our success with Cognassist has been so positive that we were selected as a national case study, showcasing how our approach transforms learner outcomes.

We also use Bud, a secure online learning platform, to record all the learner support. This makes their Learning Support Plan (LSP), written by our SENCO, clear and accessible to them, their tutor, their employer, and their assessor.
Our Approach
We pride ourselves on our person-centred approach. We adapt everything we do to fit the learner:
-
The learner support plan is bespoke, built around their goals and needs.
-
We work closely with our functional skills tutors to make sure they get targeted support in Maths and English where needed – including 1:1 tutorials, if required.
-
Our joined-up approach means their tutor/assessor and SENCO are always in communication about their progress.
Assessment and Review

We believe support should be proactive, flexible, and responsive. That’s why we assess and review every learners' needs throughout their journey.

We know that some learners hesitate to share their learning needs because they worry about being judged or treated differently. At BHT Training, our goal is to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and understood. When you tell us what you need, we can remove barriers and help you reach your full potential.
